"Mercurial Metaphor"... new batch of my original improv music

Back again... listen for free here

Nothing groundbreaking, tho I think the opener 'What You Want' is a pretty good song, with vocals (rarity for me).

Hope you enjoy it...

Sounds like you've been using alot of reverb and phasing this time around.

The reverb's not really new.... been using that for years.

Call it the latest pages from the musical journal. Not a lot of messing about on this one, most of it's straight recordings (with some 'space' added via the reverb and echo).

I don't make any claims to musical genius, but I do think I have some degree of credibility as a DIY musician, seeing how long I've been at it... it's an integral body of 'work', if you want to call it that.

It's been interesting on a dispassionate level to see how far many people will go to avoid acknowledging that I'm putting this stuff out. I have some running thoughts and theories regarding this. Mostly it's that homegrown music has suffered because the industry has entrained the culture to believe only that which has certain qualities of distribution and promotion is worthy of listening to. So it's not so much I'm avoided as anyone who presumes to home release is avoided.

My music's a creative path to accompany all the other ones that I compulsively explore. I see it as an integral component of my artist's journey. It covers emotional territory that can't be described by drawings... I've always had friends far more capable than I with music, but I think my pursuit of it could be interesting to some, being as its divorced from 'the music business' almost entirely.

Thanks for listening...

Heck, I like it even though it's not usually the kind of stuff I like. Not really into Bluegrass or banjos, but what I like about this is that you just hear a lone stark banjo that stands by itself as an emotional instrument. Very much like John Fahey's work, it has its own enigmatic quality.

Thanks, Lawrence.

The Fahey connection comes to most people who know his work, mostly because he was a big influence about the same time I started taking my playing a little more seriously*

*That's a topic for much debate... I know I'm woefully deficient, still, in terms of knowing my way around the scales, for example... I have a great ear and can sing on key but I get dyslexic on the fretboard when actual notation is called for. Never was very good at forming chords.
