Met him once at an exhibition of Sexton Ming's paintings. Had a really nice chinwag with him. Condolences to his friends and family.

Really sorry to hear that. Lol was a free jazz and Canterbury Scene legend with a unique sound and a magic sense of humour. I'll spin 'Ear Of Beholder' and 'Shooting At The Moon' in his memory tonight.

RIP ...probably the only musican to play with Anthony Braxton, The Damned and Tommy Cooper (on separate occasions mind)....which says a lot about his character. 8)

Awwwwwwwww. The British music scene will be a whole lot drier without him. One of my favourite projects of his was Zombie Bloodbath in the Isle of Dogs by The Recedents. This was an imaginary horror movie soundtrack, complete with scripted dialogue snippets and sound effects. There's a pretty hilarious moment in it when Coxhill and his Free Improvisatory chums take up the rehearsal space next to a Pub Rock band and break out into a loud jazz skronky racket, only for the two bands to get into a huge fight. He wasn't called Lol for nothing.

Fek. That's upset me. The characters are going one by one. Cutler with his harmonium, Lol with his sax..Fond memories of him with Ayers etc in Hyde Park playing to an audience of 100000 or so who were too stoned to retreat from the onslaught of pastoral parps and noodlings even if they'd wanted to. Thanks for the happy daze...

Rotten news. Lol was one of the first avant garde artists i ever got into, thanks to my dad bringing home a copy of Fleas In Custard one day, about 22 years ago. Thought it was a great album and tried very hard to pick up as many Coxhill albums as i could - which was very difficult where i lived. RIP Lol - you legend!

R.I.P. LOL. He was always on bills with Gong, Global Village Trucking Company, Kevin Ayers 73/74. You always knew the music was gonna be fine when you heard his name.

Hopefully someone somewhere is creating / curating a repository dedicated to the lives and works of these true outsiders who worked the margins of the rock mainstream while coming from an experimental music background. It feels to me like it is all rather slipping into the shadows of our cultural history. I am also still hoping that someone is going to republish Collusion magazine in a compendium at some point. That made Wire look like Smash Hits.
