I heard this pianist on Jamie Cullem's radio programme, last night - and had to buy his new album, straight away. He's a very imaginative and accomplished musician, but... like the best jazzers, an experimenter.

I was initially gonna say "Geshundeit!" then read the post.

Sounds interesting KC. Cool that it was a must purchase upon hearing.

He's a bit like that Tiger bloke, who was on 'Later...' a few weeks back. In fact, as Cullem was describing how Hauschka fiddles about with the innards of the piano I thought it was the same guy, cos he had the lid up and twanged a couple of strings during his piece. Still, the track was played and it sounded fantastic.

You may be right, but for some reason I feel an urgent need to avoid him. Whether it's the name, the haircut or what I don't know. Not rational, but there you go.

I know what you mean. He's like Nigel Kennedy in some ways, I reckon. Safe and sterile really, but desperate to ingratiate himself wherever possible. Bigging up hip-hop and street culture at the drop of a hat, yet doing very little to back up such apparent inspiration and influence.

I actually bought a Jamie Cullem CD from a charity shop a few months back and really wish I hadn't. I'm looking at it right now. It's called 'Catching Tales' and is to be avoided with as much will and resolve as Hauschka's be sought out. My tastes, though - so probably won't sit well with many folk. Still, as we all (well, most of us) agree this is not the forum for those of closed minds, is it?

I saw that cd for £2 about an hour ago. I didn't succumb.

The late (and very lamented in my pod at least) Esbjorn Svensson of the magical EST used to do stuff like that and the drummer and double-bassist also used to occasionally add electronic jiggery pokery to their things. Great stuff.

If you slander him, would it be Cullumny?
