John Martyn - In Session & Live At Leeds Deluxe
Out of these, In Session seems suprisingly superior. I'd forgotten how sweary and leary he is on L.A.L - obviously a bit out of it and nervy and over-compensating. The versions on In Session sound far better and more relaxed.

I can't think of another record that has been so badly served by the deluxe treatment. I have recommended Live at Leeds to a few people and they have come back non plussed. Problem is that it is done no favours at all by the glut of bonus tracks. There was a crappy, badly mastered Voiceprint version in the 90s that added the unlistenable Koss tunes but you could ignore those. The deluxe is a disaster by comparison. Being a fan I can't take the tunes with Koss on them which are even worse than the live Back Street Crawler stuff that has been releasd and most of the banter is drunken sub Python 6th form nonsense. Not a pretty listening experience but if you go back to the six track version the trio glows with improvisational invention.
