Combat Rock – The Clash My favourite Clash LP by a country mile. Disintegration – The Cure The LP where Cure returned to doing what they do best. Sounding miserable. Fabulous! I’m Sick Of You – Iggy & the Stooges Comes complete with awesome title track. Wolf Flow – Loop Still sounds the biz. Oracular Spectacular – MGMT Kids is a good pop song, but is the clear stand out track for me. Judy’s In The Basement – The Ramones ’75 recordings. They probably sounded even more out of sync back then! Baby See Sessions / S/T – Rolling Stones Baby See is, as the title suggests, the BBC versions of lots of the early stuff. Good stuff which lead me dig out the debut LP which is to the 60’s what The Ramones 1st LP was to the 70’s. Short and to the point. Apparently the UK version with Mona on it is no longer available. Greatest Hits – Alvin Stardust Scoff all you want! Those early 45’s are fab, especially My Coo Ca Choo and Red Dress!! I’m less keen on the rock’n’roll re-workings like Bonnie Marone, mind. Handsworth Revolution – Steel Pulse Forget the British reggae tag. This is a great reggae LP per se. Can’t Buy A Thrill – Steely Dan Other than Do It Again, I don’t like this anywhere near as much as I used to TBH. Vega / Rev – Suicide The under-rated 2nd LP. Probably my favourite by them. S/T – Television The sort of forgotten 3rd LP which seemed to promise a new beginning but now seems to be the end. It’s not Marque Moon, but it’s not bad. The End Of All Things – Tropic Of Cancer One of the best acts to have emerged in recent years AFAIC. Very early 80’s doomy stuff with drum machines. Like a cross between Joy Division and Virgin Prunes. Also... Sleazy Dreams EP - The Band In Heaven LA Woman – The Doors Music For Glitterbug – Eno Relax 12” – Frankie goes To Hollywood Demon Days - Gorillaz Chicago 1969 – Howlin’ Wolf Whip It On – The Raveonettes Phantom Power – Super Furry Animals Rabbit Moon Revisited – Tarwater

Squid Tempest wrote: Don't let me put you off Drokk - everyone else seems to really like it, so maybe I just haven't been in the mood yet, I've only listened a couple of times so far. Really agree re SciFi HiFi, for me it is the Earthlings finest. Splendid album. Listened to a couple of the Drokk tracks online and thought they were great, a must buy, but reading reviews there seems to be a recurring theme of the whole thing being a bit one paced and lacking anysort of drama. Think I'll try some more online listening before I take the plunge if I can drag myself away from EVILUSA

Squid Tempest wrote: John Martyn - In Session & Live At Leeds Deluxe Out of these, In Session seems suprisingly superior. I'd forgotten how sweary and leary he is on L.A.L - obviously a bit out of it and nervy and over-compensating. The versions on In Session sound far better and more relaxed. I can't think of another record that has been so badly served by the deluxe treatment. I have recommended Live at Leeds to a few people and they have come back non plussed. Problem is that it is done no favours at all by the glut of bonus tracks. There was a crappy, badly mastered Voiceprint version in the 90s that added the unlistenable Koss tunes but you could ignore those. The deluxe is a disaster by comparison. Being a fan I can't take the tunes with Koss on them which are even worse than the live Back Street Crawler stuff that has been releasd and most of the banter is drunken sub Python 6th form nonsense. Not a pretty listening experience but if you go back to the six track version the trio glows with improvisational invention.

Two of the extras are worth having (May You Never and Spencer The Rover) but there are better performances of those two elsewhere. Anyway I recommend you listen to it as his muse originally intended as his original edit was bang-on.

For some reason I never got as far as that album back in the day, despite being a complete fanboy at the time.

Outside In (18.56 version) Solid Air Make No Mistake Bless The Weather The Man In The Station I'd Rather Be The Devil (8.58 version) I can't remember if the versions that were originally released of the first and last tracks are part of the deluxe edition but if not drop me an e mail and I will send it to you. Some of the improvs on this record and (ironically) the music he played with Koss on the Back Street Crawler album are out there / up there with some of the best late 60s and early 70s Miles records for sheer spook value and a willingness to take traditional forms to the extremes without going totally outside. It's folk Squid .... but not as we know it
