Couldn't agree with you more on all the points you made.

The idea of 'the more obscure it is the more worthwhile it is' seems particularly prevalent with the psych/acid/freak folk crowd. I remember reading a glowing review of COB's Moyshe McStiff album that made me dig out my CD copy to give it a listen. It did absolutely nothing for me and I failed to find anything in the music to make me want to listen to it again anytime in the near future.

And Penguin Eggs is an absolute cracker!
