Really can't stand Stephin Merritt's monotone voice but I bet even you would like their first two albums The Wayward Bus and Distant Plastic Trees with a dreamy female singer on vocal duties and not a peep out of Merritt (they're also available as a two-fer). Really perfect pop and infinitely superior to anything else they put out I think.
