just been listening to Disc4 , really good , especially Pinnacles [the track] wasn't expecting a blissful 22 min finale, enjoyed Ages a lot as well, makes me wonder if I should check out a bit more 80s TD

Yep White Eagle and Exit are great! That new set is excellent stuff in general. It was after this period, i assume when hollywood came knocking, that they became dodgy.

IIRC I used to have Hyperborea on tape, is that the one with Mojave Desert on it, at the time I was dissapointed that TD started sounding similar to a lot of a lot of other 80s artists, all that Miami Vice theme / slap bass nonsense, maybe I was being harsh, or it could well be that like all the revolting hair metal that tainted Van Halen that I missed the pearls because of the swine
Having said that I listened to the Firestarter OST not long ago and that was horrible

The only thing I can think of is that it is a film soundtrack. Never heard it, does it revisit older material?

Really into what is on it though - Ages, Stuntman and Pinnacles were all new to me.

This second Virgin TD box (77 - 83) worth getting? I have Encore and White Eagle but have never heard the rest (Force Majeure, Tangram, Exit, Logos & Hyperborea) beyond deciding I didn't like them after limited exposure in my youth. Still have a terror of later TD - though Encore is one of my faves - although how "late" that is is debatable.

Force Majeure is TD at their most trad prog-ish, sounding not unlike our friends Eloy in places ie. bargain basement Floyd. Exit has some interesting stuff on it, though in my view is just the curtain raiser for the majesty that is White Eagle. The others are a bit dull IMO.
