Well not exactly. He made a Jumping Jive LP not long after which wasn't exactly playing it safe! There must have been something in the air - Costello went c&w at a similar time.

I saw JJ on that Jumping Jive tour. "Play some old stuff" shouted someone in the crowd. "It doesn't get much older than this" he said with a smile!
