I definitely like the idea of fighting against isolationism, which I agree tends to be used a weapon against protest movements.
Problems do often start when movements attain a broader base though - that tends to be when the in-fighting starts. Interesting to consider ways to overcome this natural tendancy.
In the case of the Arab Spring in-fighting started when the initial objectives were met (probably the seeds were already sown) and a vacuum suddenly needed filling. And everybody had guns.
