Oh and rumour has it that Scott Walker is due to release an album this year, though history tells me not to get too excited about it just yet!

It arrived today. As you can tell, I'm not big on willpower when it comes to records! Only listened to 1st side so far - sounding great! The cover is a bit of a disappointment after all I'd read about it - I prefer a proper card one really. Nice design though.

I'm loving it so far!

Yep, it's looking like there'll be a Black Tempest track or two on the Head Music compilation due out in April. I'm very excited at the prospect - not only do I admire and love FdM, but I've had an ambition to have a release on vinyl for years and years.

I've just got Kate's 50 Words, and I have to say it hasn't grabbed me yet. What is that track with The Elt all about? He sounds too much like his characature on the Impression Show for comfort - "Text me when the baby gets to Universiteeee!"...

Have you heard her Maxi Priest-esque version of Rocket Man? Melodica and all.

We seem to be in the minority who prefer the Dunes album to Solus? I feel like both sophomore efforts were a step forward from the debuts (and the personnel seems to be overlapping more than ever) -- but somehow while the expanded pallet makes Dunes sound even better, I prefered the more "focused & sparse" sound of the first Solus album (expanding the pallet in this case diffuses what made the original so unique.) IMHO of course (hi Ian!)

I think we are!

I'm not sure why I prefer Galaxsea to COTW, tbh.

I think it's something to do with the vocals being lower in the mix on Galaxsea, being more to my personal taste. Not that I've compared them straight after each other to prove this theory or anything...so I could well be talking complete bollocks!

I should have said I just prefer it and that's that! ; )

But unlike you I prefer COTW to their debut. Regardless of whether it's better than Galaxsea or not it's a fine album in its own right.

I can't remember if I posted this before so apologies if I have but I reviewed COTW here...

Personally thought 2011 was a fantastic year for music. The undernoted is a list of the ones that made most impression on me in broad alphabetical order. If I had to choose a top six it would be:

1. Morton Feldman - Feldman Edition 11, Orchestra (Mode).
2. Tim Hecker - Ravedeath 1972 (Kranky)
3. Alog - Unemployed (Rune Grammofon.
5. Jenny Hval - Viscera (Rune Grammofon)
6. Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will (Rock Action) Bit of a sleeper this one brought fully to life by a magnificent Barrowlands show just befor Xmas.

Otherwise the two things of note would be that it's definitely a year for the ladies across all genres and reissues and Rune Grammofon is easily my favourite label of 2011.

Aethenor - En Form For Bla (VHF)
Alog - Unemployment (Rune Grammofon)
Asva - Presences of Absences (Important)
Bee Mask - Elegy for Beach Friday (Spectrum Spools)
Matt Berry - Witchazel (Acid Jazz)
Black Tempest - Secret Astronomies and Supernormal Recordings
Nels Cline/Tim Berne/Jim Black - The Veil (Cryptogramophone)
Seth Cluett - Objects of Memory (Line)
Loren Connors - Red Mars (Family Vineyard)
Corrupted - Garten der Unbewusstheit (Nostalgia Blackrain)
Larry Coryell with the Wild Hive Players - s/t (Wild Hive Players)
Delphic Vapours - Get Off Their Knees (Critical Heights)
Evangelista - Animal Tongue (Constellation)
The Fall - Ersatz GB (Cherry Red)
Morton Feldman - Feldman Edition 11, Orchestra (Mode)
Grouper - AIA (Yellow electric)
Hayvanlar Alemi - Guarana Superpower (Sublime Frequencies)
Mary Halvorson/Jessica Pavone - Departure of Reason (Thirsty Ear)
Hauschka/Hildur Godnadottir - Pan Tone (Sonic Pieces)
Tim Hecker - Ravedeath 1972 (Kranky)
Julia Holter - Tragedy (Leaving Records)
Jenny Hval - Viscera (Rune Grammofon)
Stephan Mathieu - A Static Place (12K)
Hedvig Mollestad Trio - Shoot! (Rune Grammofon)
Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells - Everything's Getting Older (Chemikal Underground)

Phaedra - The Sea (Rune Grammofon)
Eliane Radigue - Transamorem/Transmortem (Important)
Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo (Turnstile)
