Desert Island Discs?
Jun 15, 2011, 07:44
Radio 4 just did a listeners' "best of" where non celebs could send in their own selections and they were compiled into a chart.

So, if you could pick eight pieces of music and one luxury item for a long stay in sun-drenched solitary what would they be?

This is SO difficult. As of this morning it would go something like this, and would be diffferent again tomorrow, so in no particular order:

John Coltrane: A Love Supreme
Ravi Shankar: Live In San Francisco
Holst: Planet Suite
Pentangle: Basket Of Light
Yes: Close To The Edge
Incredible String Band: Hangman's Beautiful Daughter
The Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour US LP Version
The Kinks: Are The Village Green Preservation Society

Luxury Item: My Duvet

( I was tempted to do a Partridge and choose eight 'Best Of's' and my Ipod).

Forgot my own eight. Not easy even if you are allowed albums rather than tracks. A lot of killing two birds with one stone here ..

Beauty Queen - For Your Pleasure
Moonlight Mile - Sticky Fingers
Close To The Edge - Yessongs
Cop Shoot Cop - Spritiualized RAH
Like A Rolling Stone - Spirit of 76
Walk With Me - Translinear Light (Alice Coltrane)
Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiodread (Junior Jazz)
Bach Cello Suites - Tortelier

EDIT forgot Small Hours from "One World" that's going to have to cover folk, dub and ambient for me and so the Radiodread track has to go.

EDIT #2: Forgot Hazey Jane I from "Bryter Layter". That might trump the Spiritualized tune.

Luxury? A piano. Presumably I would have plenty of time to learn how to play it and it could double as a sideboard and wind break!

EDIT forgot the book? - A Wodehouse compendium probably or James Robert Baker's "Boy Wonder" which is an epic and highly comedic and somewhat incorrect Hollywood satire. Something funny and episodic at any rate.
