Haven't read that. I will seek it out. I know very little of the biographical details of composers' lives before Schoenberg, Berg and Webern as I don't like to read a very technical anaysis of music and a lot of classical music writing seems to lean that way.
No fear on that front with the Schonberg book, dreadfully gossipy and consequently a hoot. The chapter on Richard Wagner, while acknowledging his genius, is a comedy classic.
Got the Lebrecht book. On display right by the door of the libary in the "recommended reading" section. Bless them.
The autobiographical 'The Memoirs of Berlioz' (translated by David Cairns) is a great read too - it is also frequently laugh out loud funny.
