Prince Rama of Ayodhya - Threshhold Dances/Zetland. Highly recommended for any Big Blood fans. Dizzying, catchy, invigorating freak folk made by ex-members of a Krishna commune. Love - S/T Nine Circles - S/T. Check out this Stone Coldwave Classic cut: What's There Left Stump - The Complete Anthology Ennio Morricone - Una Lucertola Con la Pelle Di Donna. His most warped and messed up work to the most warped and messed up Giallo. Lotte Lenya - Lotte Lenya singt Kurt Weill Ivor Cutler - An Elpee and Two Epees Monoton - Monotonprodukt 07 Lives of Angels - Elevator to Eden Vladislav Delay - Entain Julie Driscoll - 1969 The Breeders - Pod (Got inspired to give it a relisten by lurking on Ming and...Ian(?)'s conversation. Still great) Shonen Knife - Shonen Knife (Comp of their first two albums, which they cannibalized for tunes for the rest of their career) V.A. - Voices, Notes & Noise (Recommended Records sampler) The Beach Boys - Smile: The Purple Chick Reconstruction Laika - The Sounds of the Satellites Curse ov Dialect - Wooden Tongues The Red Army Choir - Best Of. You might've heard Kalinka already. The rest is just as beautiful. Noah Howard - The Black Ark. Awesome Free Jazzer who just recently died.

I love Morricone, but not managed to find a reasonably-priced copy of that one. I think I might have actually seen the movie at some point, though. Wasn't all that great if I recall... And I generally like dodgy Italian Giallos. Is the score worth paying an extra few quid for?

Good to see you've got the Omar bug. Any special favourites in the bunch?

Liz Phair - s/t Liz Phair - comeandgetit Liz Phair - Happy Tragic Thing Really interesting to hear an album alongside it's what-might-have-been outtakes. The outtakes are more what you would expect from her earlier records but the performances are sharper and some of her best songs lie here. Not having listened to the album itself since the time of its release I wasn't expecting to find that I actually quite like the glossy power pop post-grunge bubblegum sheen. The guitars betray a bit of Placebo here, the Pixies there and even a chunk of "Give Em Enough Rope". There is what I assume is a bit of autotune on the chorues for the pop kids and even in this context she was able to show off her talents as a genuinely funny writer. How much of the occasional glibness is playing to the mall and how much of it is tongue in cheek I don't know. When someone is trying to make a leap from almost gold to multi platinum it can be hard to tell. The best tracks are what I imagined Aimee Mann or Matthew Sweet coming up with should they take a deliberate tilt at the big time. The worst tracks sound like the music any sit-com character played by Courtney Cox would bang the wheel to while driving to colon therapy. Highly recommend you track down the outtakes and check our "Rock Me" from the official album before going any further. Seems to be the acid test track response to which pretty much determines whether or not people can stand the rest. Split Enz - Mental Notes / Second Thoughts Hard to imagine a major in 2010 getting behind an act as outre as the pre Neil Finn line up of Split Enz with the brilliant but troubled Phil Judd leading the line. It's harder to nail down the sound but if you can imagine a heavily orchestrated mixture of early Genesis and say Doctors of Madness you wont be too far from the mark. These records are the two versions of their debut album (the later a Phil Manzanera production for Chrysalis with many of the songs from Mental Notes re-recorded with an eye on the UK/US rock market). Be Bop Deluxe - Air Age Anthology It is rare that a compilation from a major artist is more satisfactory listen than the actual albums from which it is drawn but this is a corker. The sequencing is a work of genius. The sound is just so. The sleeve notes worth reading. Stones - Get Yer Ya Yas Out TPOH - Love Junk Argent - Circus

Bits or all of: Atomic Rooster 'Heavy Soul' Johnny Cash 'Ain't No Grave' Clive Gregson 'Forward Into Reverse' The Concretes 'In Colour' Cat Stevens 'Catch Bull At Four' Horisont 'Tva Sidor Av Horisonten' (cheers, Moon Cat!) Caravan 'The World Is Yours - An Anthology' Glenn Hughes 'This Time Around' Radiohead 'Kid A' plus loads of Messiaen's bird music for piano solo: strangely theraputic. Have a good week - and thanks again for the kind words. Dave
