I keep coming back to the Roxy comparison too.
And Nelson's voice really reminds me of someone I can't put my finger on -- he's "extremely English" sounding. Maybe a more tuneful Eno crossed with a less ethereal Mark Bolan?
Shame it is the exception rather than the rule. I am not a fan of that English pre-Punk thing of singing with an American accent. Jagger kind of gets away with it because his version of Soul and Country is such a cartoon but a lot of the those Blues Rock singers are kind of embarassing. Much as I love Humble Pie judging by the live recordings Steve M must have been one of the worst offenders.
