Monty Python on vinyl
Aug 26, 2010, 08:26
recently saw a John Cleese stand-up performance in a theater between LA and Santa Barbara (where he apparently lives these days). utterly delightful.

it led me to take all the old Python lps out of the cupboard for a spin -- does anyone have any nostalgic affection for those?

i always particularly liked the utterly bizarre record shop bit on side two of Matching Tie and Handkerchief, the one with the double-groove...

Funnily enough I was listening to Another Monty Python Record the other day for the first time in years. The Spanish Inquisition bits tickled the Squidlings :-)

I miss the comedy record :( The Pythons, Derek & Clive, The Firesign Theatre... It's a lost art.

I've got Matching Tie & Handkerchief but I haven't played it in yonks. I think I might give it another spin now.

My dad had both "Matching Tie.." and "Another Monthy Python Record" and I used to love 'em both. As I recall, "Another..", like "Matching tie..." had a gimmick run out groove: you heard Michael Palin saying "Sorry Squire, I've scratched the record" and it would blip back on repeat til you had him saying "I've scratched the record.." over and over til you got up and lifted the needle up.

I remember owning and loving the first "Not The Nine O'Clock News" album too.

I love the 'radio play', "The Death of Mary, Queen of Scots" on that album too!

And...SPAM!

All the Python albums were rereleased a few years ago with loads of extra tracks on them. Well worth hunting down.

There is some awesome stuff here http://orangecow.org/pythonet/audio/audio.html
including rare albums and albums of rare.
