Another mug of Bitches Brew
Aug 17, 2010, 09:44
Just been reading about the 40th anniversary edition(s) of Bitches Brew that are coming out later this month. The basic legacy edition looks exactly the same as the 1999 one except for a bonus dvd recorded in Copenhagen http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bitches-Brew-Legacy-2Cd-1Dvd/dp/B003U9V674/ref=pd_sim_m_h__2 and then there's the super deluxe version with vinyl, cd's, book etc etc.

I love that album but does it need yet another re-issue when it's already out there for all to buy?? I'll be tempted by the basic one just for the dvd but I doubt the sound will be improved upon will it? Anyone know anymore about it?

Seems like the Miles Davis re-issue programme will continue forever more. Amazing really

It won't be long now 'til the 20th anniversary special edition of the anniversary edition of 'On The Corner' comes out.

I got the last remaster and it's wonderful so I don't think I'll need another version, but I'll get it from the library for any essential extras when it appears in their racks.

Cheers Bill - I'm going to give it another play in between my Parson Sound head fest!

That's my kinda thinking too.

I've been playing Bitches Brew on my commute to work so far this week and it sounds marvellous, especially coming after the trashy rock n roll trip I've been on recently (Bad Seeds, Birthday Party, Pussy Galore etc etc). An album to get seriously lost in. I can feel a Miles-fest looming large over my listening tastes for the next couple of weeks........

You've given me the urge for Dark Magus as well. Full throttle sonic headfuck jazz that'll bite yer legs off and cast them into the abyss.

It's not even jazz really is it ? The most full on cosmic sonic mindfuck that will make your synapses scream. Music for The Big Bang.

Slightly surprised on thinking about it that nobody's officially released any of the live '73 video material. Maybe the release of this Copenhagen dvd which has been around on torrent sites for the last couple of years at least, will prompt people to look into releasing more electric era dvd material.

& I need to burn the dvd of a Material or other Laswell led band featuring Cosey from about 2005 that I got about a month back.

Really hoping that something from Cosey's tenure in Power Tools turns up. They were good enough with Bill Frisell but Cosey'd be something else.

I love the calm but freaky and groovy parts on Dark Magus too, when it slows and expands outwards/inwards making your brain turn to goo.

Have you got Live At The Fillmore: It's About That Time? Now that's an aggressive sounding album! http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/2197-live-at-the-fillmore-east-march-7-1970-its-about-that-time/ Not a Miles album I've played that often. I agree with what that review says at the very end....'Over thirty years later, I'm not sure I understand what the preceding hour-and-a-half was all about, except what I consider exceptional musicians taking exceptional chances'.
