My old punk rocker dad liked them r they still alive Probably my least favorite punk band next to Naked Raygun (and I might also say Sham 69 except they did do that excellent "They Didn't Even Want Us in the USA", lol...) Everything I hate about punk in one band: po-faced, musically conservative... |

Fuck, I only said I liked that album cover. But as we're here - po-faced? Hmmm... While various middle class and/or public school educated young men & women were shouting about anarchy and riots in 1977, SLF were growing up in Belfast during the Troubles. Growing up in the middle of a war can make people a bit serious and might just feed into your music. Nothin' for us in Belfast The Pound so old it's a pity OK, there's the Trident in Bangors Then walk back to the city We ain't got nothin' but they don't really care They don't even know you know They just want money They can take it or leave it What we need is (Chorus) An Alternative Ulster Grab it change it's yours Get an Alternative Ulster Ignore the bores, their laws Get an Alternative Ulster Be an anti-security force Alter your native Ulster Alter your native land Take a look where you're livin' You got the Army on the street And the RUC dog of repression Is barking at your feet Is this the kind of place you wanna live? Is this were you wanna be? Is this the only life we're gonna have? What we need is (Chorus) They say they're a part of you But that's not true you know They say they've got control of you And that's a lie you know They say you will never be Free free free Alternative Ulster Alternative Ulster Alternative Ulster Pull it together now. |

So, it doesn't make their music any more interesting.

| SLF are still marvelous. Seen them at the Lemon Tree, Aberdeen then at the Barrowlands, Glasgow on St. Paddys Day. (these two gigs happen most years) Still brilliant, I love the Hope Street album as I do most of their stuff. Jake Burns is a considerable talent. The interviews of the early days at the end of their first two albums are superb. Alternative Ulster and Suspect Device, the singles did well but the band were gluing together the single sleeves in a Belfast house. Thousands and thousands of them when charts were charets. Changed days! | |
