I read reviews in the new Uncut & Mojo of the new book Electric Eden by Rob Young. Seems to cover the history of the late 60s British folk revival that lead to British folk rock etc and beyond. think it goes quite a bit before and sometime after too. Looking forward to reading this. is there a larger spate of books touching on this area happenning? Seasons They change which i initially thought this was is due around the new year isn't it? Are there any others appearing? Assuming this is already out since Book depositoary have it being shipped within 48 hours. I think most of their in stock stuff is 24 hours though, so is that wishful thinking on their part. Anybody read any of it? Stevo

Great review in the Grauniad that just abouts sets the book in context. I think it will be regarded as a very important book in years to come...its quite 'scholarly' but not oppressively so. Quite essential I reckon. Julian gets fairly extensively covered btw... http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/aug/07/electric-eden-folk-rob-young

Flicked through a copy in City Books last week while waiting for Silver Apples to arrive at St Andrews Church. Was surprised I hadn't heard anything about it. Looked really good. I can't afford it right now and I've a stack of stuff to read, but I really just want to go back and grab it. Apart from anything else, there's quite a chunk of stuff on Cope that goes right up to his current work, discussing Black Sheep and Kiss My Sweet Apocalypse.

It looks absolutely fascinating. It covers everything from Beatles to ISB, Fairport, Pentangle, Donovan, Syd, Comus, Nick Drake etc.& etc. to Julian Cope, and everything in between. I've been waiting for a work like this as it deals with my most beloved musical world. Amazon here we come.

Looking forward to this one. I hear mixed reports from older heads who feel it is (inevitably) skewed towards the interests of the 21st century hipster. At least it is not by Will "Lets Play Dress-Up" Hodgkinson whose support of Trembling Bells is almost comical. The band who are to Folk what Blue Rondo A La Turk were to Latin or Plastic Bertrand was to Punk Rock, the band who seem to think that time spent in the secondhand stores (actual and musical) will allow them to ride in on the Unthanks coat tails. Anyway, enough of my pet hates, lets hope that Rob Young sifts the chaff from the grain.

Since Rob Young is co-editor of The Wire there is some material up on their website here http://www.thewire.co.uk/themire/2010/08/the-wire-salon-electric-eden which has the only extract from the book I've seen so far I think, on the Incredible String Band's Hangman's Beautiful Daughter. Plus a podcast interview with Johnny Mump and he has his own blog here http://www.electriceden.net/ Stevo Np Neil Young Time Fades Away The Great Pretender
