You can't beat a bit of ZZ Top. I prefer the pre-Elminator stuff meself, but you can't deny the groove on that record and the production is totemic. I love the way their sound evolved, particularly on Deguello and El Loco, culminating in Eliminator which deservedly sold by the barrel-load. Top band, as it were.

I believe it was the fact that they all came from dry, mountainous areas of Texas with the exception of flat swamp dwelling Dusty Hill.

Totally agree with that post. Think Rio Grande Mud is my favourite, with Duguello. But then there's Tejas, and Tres Hombres. Ah, fuck it...

Hand me another one of them brews from back there.

You know the ironic thing about Frank Beard?

Dusty and Billy were known as straight talkers; to the point, never bullshitted even if it caused offence. Frank on the other hand, always skirted around the issue, terrified of forming a real opinion.

I think I prefer them quite a way before the o.m.d. influence.

Now that you mention it, it's blindingly obvious.

Well Gibbons never moved like that before he saw them.
