Just heard about his passing. Great presenter, always enjoyed Mixing It. We've lost arguably Britain's most adventurous music DJ, a very important figure. Thoughts with his friends and family.

Sad news. I worked fairly closely with him in the mid to late 80s and my wife was a colleague in the 90s. Reslly nice chap and, as you say, as adventurous as they come in the world of the BBC and broadsheet journalism.

This is shocking and unexpected. I used to listen and tape Mixing it frequently from 1991 onward. John Peel mentioned the programme which is how I got to hear of it. They the Mixing it programme played the Whole of Frank Zappa's Civilisation III shortly after he died back in '93.

He and Mark Russell made for a fine double act, with Robert doing a fair bit of winding him up in the subtlest of ways.

Was shocking how that show was just axed. Seemed there was someone just sitting there one dark night as they recorded, waiting to break the news.

Left a void that did.

RIP, seemed a very nice bloke indeed.

Sad news. He was nice about my music on his show which he described as 'Jean Michel Jarre in a scuba diving accident' which was great.

Good wine column in GQ too.

RIP

That's very sad news. Many's the discovery made from his recommendations over the years: rest in peace, friend.
