That's a great read, cheers! Interesting to hear his view on repetitive electronic dance music. I wonder what artist would get him really into it, if he ever was that is? Maybe Plastikman 'Musik' with it's slow drawn out 303 landscapes and general head fuckery. Hmmmm. Also, being a big fan of both bands I did wonder how he decided on what was a Shjips song and what was a Moon Duo song. Nice interview sir. I'm off to see Moon Duo at the Corsica Studios tomorrow night. Really looking forward to it I must say.

I was at that one. Just managed to get there before they started. Thought it was a bit slow to get going but once it did it was excellent. But then I love minimal repetative things. Wondering what that Scientists cover was they played at the end. David

Ltd release on Agitated Records and well worth tracking down. Did you see them in Brighton last night then? Can't wait for tonights show. Was playing them on my ipod into work today wondering what their set will be. All of the Escape album? Love On The Sea and Killing Time EP's? They could play it all really. Supported by The Oscillation who're on DC Recordings which will be super sweet too!

Yeah, I was at Brighton last night. I agree the first number was a bit underwhelming, but once they found their feet it was excellent. Oddly, in some ways they reminded me of very early Sisters of Mercy- their live sound, as opposed to their records- the mix of basic drum machine, Hawkwind-inspired guitar riffs and heavy echo. I was dancing with my girlfriend down the front- you could see the silhouette of my head projected onto the backdrop on the far left! Mugstar supported and they gave the Duo a run for their money, too- a brilliant set of pure metal concentrate. A touch of Killing Joke? A bit envious of you getting The Oscillation in London, though- I really liked their album of a couple of years back, but haven't seen them live.

Yep it was Brighton I was at last night. The set was about 50 minutes and about 8 tracks Just had a listen to Set It On Fire and that does sound like the right riff. Enjoy them at Corsica.... hoping some boots appear in the next few days. David

I wonder what artist would get him really into it that shjips band i'm not keen on, but i'm gonna check this band - looks promising ... re dance music for rockers, "Pop" by Gas turned a few hairy heads when it appeared all those yrs ago ... but, yeah, easy combo for my favourite music too = driving repetition w/ loads of whigged out free noise over the top of it

Good to hear some dancing was going down. You can't help but bob along to the Shjips and I'm assuming Moon Duo will be the same live. Sadly my other half doesn't like this kind of music, which kind of makes me sad in a way, so I'll be cutting some rug with my mate Ewan instead. He's a Moon Duo virgin but lost his Shjips cherry back in April so knows what to expect. The Oscillation according to the DC Recording site - The Oscillation is Demian Castellanos' mightiest incarnation yet, a bewildering mix of pop songs and expansive psychedelic freakouts that demands comparison with the harder edge of the 70's krautrock scene, the lambent tones of bands like Spiritualized or Loop at their most medicated, or The Ruts battling their way out of an echo chamber to a background of white noise. To coincide with the release of "Out Of Phase", the debut album by The Oscillation, Castellanos put together a band who have since played a selection of incendiary live show in the UK and across Europe. Look out for them in a city near yu soon!
