Yesterday I bought this record: Bob Dylan Live 1966: The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert [The Bootleg Series Vol.4] And I am crazy about this double cd! Amazing, amazing record!!! I wonder if all the other cds of the Bootleg Series are that good?

I thought that was the 1st one. Though there was a 3cd box called the bootleg something or other. The RAH (or actually Manchester free trade Hall isn't it? ) is the only one from that era. There are loads of other live live sets from '65 and '66 that turn up on torrent sites from time to time. Though I think I got a load from Tapecity which is now defunct. the Rolling Thunder tour '75 is pretty good, as is the '64 live one from the time of Another Side I think. That's all solo acoustic though. There's one volume that's the s/track to the Scorsese film No Direction Home which comes from various different times. & the D.A. Pennebraker film Don't Look Back is a must see, especially in the extended dvd box version. Stevo

It also contains a few must-have tracks in their own right - Lord Protect My Child, If You've Got To Go (as covered in French by the Fairports) and Blind Willie McTell in particular. The stand out tracks are a great voice and piano version of Like A Rolling Stone and v relaxed late-night versions of Tangled Up In Blue and Idiot Wind. The version of Subterranean Homesick Blues is also really special. These versions are so good that when you go back to the original album versions they don't sound quite as definitive they did before. Which is the sure sign of a v special out take I think. Overall I think Vol 1 -3 works better than any of the standard Dylan "hits & hightlights" compilations except maybe the original Greatest Hits Vol 2 double which is must-have.

I wonder if all the other cds of the Bootleg Series are that good? I have only heard the first 5 volumes, but they are all good if you are a Dylan fan. Live 1966 (disc two) is one of my favourite albums of all time, no fooling. I always thought it was pretty accurate of that guy to shout Judas, though not in the way most people think. Really, if it wasn't for Judas turning Jesus into the Romans, hwe would never have been killed, and the whole Christian thing would've gone right out the window. Well, if Dylan didn't go electric, I wonder how many people would never have picked up an electric guitar, and continued to play white-bread watered down protest songs. I fucking hate Blowin' In The Wind.
