In the words of Tom Reagan would say: Who ya gonna believe? Mojo wrote: sees the former Microdisney and Fatama Mansions contrarian travel further down a cul-de-sac of inaccessibility" and features "discordant anti-melodies chifly designed as a backing for Coughlan's rambling, impenetrable surrealist poetry. The Sunday Business Post wrote: That Cathal Coughlan remains chronically underrated as a tunesmith and lyricist after three decades in the business is a bewildering injustice. The fifth solo outing from the supremely articulate and defiant former Microdisney and Fatima Mansions frontman is a typically crisp, consistent and understated gem. It eases through an array of musical styles, including jangly guitar pop (Shipman Memorial, Best Say We’re Not Serious), cinematic Scott Walker-esque ballads (The Frond-Seller, Avail) and gentle Euro-jazz (Rancho Tetrahedron #2, Alphadena), with plenty more in between. Those already smitten will clutch this to their hearts, but for anyone else who craves intellectual lyricism, the deftly dramatic use of minor chords and melodies that linger long after the final note, this is well worth seeking out. It’s the work of a true craftsman. **** I know who I'm reading from now on. Hot Press, also called it his "most commercial and accessible in years" and gives it 4/5. But they're not as funny as the Business Post.
