They are playing at Oeiras Sound Festival near my place (10 minutes walking) and I wonder what do they sound like these days... I'm tempted, but... I'm a bit affraid!

They're doing some UK shows, too. Including The Big Chill, I think. Probably going to be a lot better than some the late 80s incarnations, I'm sure.

Saw some clips from their tour on youtube from a few years ago and to be honest I thought they sounded very close to the original versions which really impressed me, considering the material is nearly 40 years old and not all the original line up present, very impressed. I'd be there like a shot if it were near me. edit: here we are Editions of You and Out of the Blue (the electric violin solo at the end is well worth waiting for!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlr3nopkc1s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqYBdcwVsHM

I'm a bit affraid! if the 2001 and 2005 gigs were anything to go by, it should be ace. the live at the Apollo reunion dvd in particular was everything one could wish it to be. in fact, i don't think they were that professional in their heydey even (a bootleg dvd of the Stockholm show in Jan 1976 illustrates that the wheels were coming off), whereas their 80s shows focused too much on the slick Avalon-era stuff. these days they seem to be embracing their history rather than running from it. nb - great new dvd out on them called More Than This - the Story of Roxy Music. well worth a tenner.

Bryan Ferry is obviously a bell-end, but the last time around they were playing lots of the peak Roxy-stuff (the 1st LP to Country Life). Sterling versions of Remake/Remodel, Both Ends Burning, Out of the Blue, Ladytron, If There Is Something, Mother of Pearl, A Song for Europe, For Your Pleasure etc. Is the line-up the same? In the right mood I don't mind the later stuff, especially Oh Yeah and the Avalon LP - even if the latter sounds like the kind of LP designed for 80's studio technology and getting your wing-wang guzzled by a European model whilst snorting coke...

Actually I really liked Avalon and it's state-of-the-art 80s sound. RM did it better than anyone else at that time.

Great live performances of Virginia Plain and Love is the Drug on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross last friday. Still up on the BBC I-player right now for those in the UK lucky enough to access it.

You think so? I thought it was tired and messy. That drummer was seriously struggling.

Thought it was bollox myself. Tired old wagon vaudeville for pennies that aren't needed.
