I listen to a lot more Cale nowdays but Transformer and Berlin were right there in my youth.

Am I the only one who thinks Berlin's pretty good?

Nope, I love Berlin. Picked it up on an original vinyl years back with the lyric insert, great package, great album. Oh Jim.....love that track.

The Kids is a tad harrowing isn't it, especially if you indulge in the myth about the producer (was it?) telling his kids their Mum had died and then recording the resulting grief and upset. Nice.

Bob Ezrin says it's true and in his shoes I would be more inclined to deny it!

Berlin is Lou's best album. His Station to Station. A monolithic work of art and not a weak moment. Transformer had the four big hit tunes (and Andy's Chest) but a fair bit of filler. Shame Lou doesn't remember making his best album. Not sure if that is tragic, ironic or both.

It's easily the best rock / pop narative based concept album. Especially as the story actually makes sense. Which is faint praise for a great album but given the paucity of the competition in that area it's another world's tallest pygmy situation.
