IanB wrote: Southpaw Grammar - Morrissey Wire - Pink Flag .... Would be interesting to consider whether this record and Chairs Missing were any less influential on the 90s and 00s than the first two Stooges reords. Intersting Mozzer choice, the opener being a terrific piece of Shostakovich purloinment. Short answer to your Wire speculation is "without a doubt", particularly around chez Frischmann/Albarn anyway.

IanB wrote: Southpaw Grammar - Morrissey Not a big fan of The Sm*ths or Steven Morrissey or any of the bands that followed them (other than maybe the second James album on Sire) but this is a really fine record. The lack of jingle-jangle guitars is a major plus point and for me it's his best (and least mannered) set of vocals. Quite Cope like in parts. Interesting Moz album. There he was back in the limelight and back on form with Your Arsenal and Vauxhall & I after the pretty poor Kill Uncle LP. SP was definitely not what his career needed at that time! But it proved to be something of a grower and a stayer.

I salute you. I've mentioned them here before. I'm off to do battle with a Japanese shrubbery, so I know what to play in my Ipod now. :-)
