Re: The Experimental Institution Radio Show (Show 43: Freak Folk!!)
Mar 05, 2011, 11:06
OK, here's something I know something about, seeing as how it's the type of music I make.

Freek Folk

"Break all the rules and embrace your inner-freak with this 60-minute show covering the lively and quirky underground freak folk scene that's quietly taken over the music industry over the last few years. These liberated souls are just about as free and freaky as they come and all are experts at making ramshackle melodies that stay in your head for days."

Featuring: Big Blood & The Bleedin' Hearts, Prince Rama of Ayodhya, The Fugs, Azalia Snail, Paavoharju, Alec K Redfearn and the Eyesores, Charming Hostess, Alvarius B, Vinter, The Cherry Blossoms, Only a Mother, Oidupaa Vladimir Ouin, Happy Jawbone Family Band, Faun Fables...

Hope you guys dig it!

Re: The Experimental Institution Radio Show (Shows 44: Punk Rock & 45: Thai Dai)
Mar 27, 2011, 03:21
44) Punk Rock

"A great selection of rare and catchy pop-punk anthems, John Peel sessions and cathartic squalls! 'What are you rebelling against?' Whaddya got!"

Feat: The Homosexuals, Swell Maps, The Desperate Bicycles, Alternative TV, The Tours, Flipper, The Petticoats, Model Citizens, Come On, Simply Saucer, Electric Eels, Debris', Peel Sessions by Crass, The Slits, The Adverts, X-Ray Spex, The Fall & The Buzzcocks...and more!

45) Thai Dai

"Thailand, in its own quiet way, has produced some of the most remarkable music of the twentieth century. With labels like Sublime Frequencies, Soundway Records and Finders Keepers setting out to reissue as many Thai works as possible, the West can finally find out what it's been missing all these years."

More board-spamming!

47)The Spoken Word

"A fascinating hour's worth of bizarre arcana. The only rule is it has to be Spoken Word! Expect jive-talkin' beatniks, dub poetry, black militants laying it down and deliciously dated public service records. Enjoy!"

feat: William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Ken Nordine, The Last Poets, John Cale, Ivor Cutler, Quentin Crisp, Norman Lovett (doing a great Peel impression), Mutabaruka, Del Jones, Lord Buckley and more!

And one I'm not sure will go down too well with this board but I think is quite cool...

46) J-Pop & Twee Pop

"A show covering two genres which took pop music and made it their own personal playthings. Japan has released some of the most utterly bizarre and catchy pop music ever made, while Twee Pop completely shunned all traces of slickness and released some of the most earnest tuneage you're ever likely to hear. They're both awesome!"

Might make for some pretty fun upbeat summer listening in any case.

Only three more left before I take a break for the summer. Then I might come back with a couple've showcases on people like Captain Beefheart and...J.C. himself.

Peace!

Re: The Experimental Institution Radio Show (49 - Caught By The Fuzz)
May 19, 2011, 00:47
Internet's working for ten minutes straight! Awlright!

Only one more show left for now, then I'll finally stop with the spammage.

49) Caught By The Fuzz!

"60 minutes of some of the most gonzoid, tripped out fuzzathons ever recorded! May the fuzz be with you."

Feat: Gilberto Gil, Chico's Magnetic Band, Davie Allen & The Arrows, Can, Swamp Rats, Michael Yonkers Band and loads more.

And the last two shows before it:

47) The Spoken Word

"A fascinating hour's worth of bizarre arcana. The only rule is it has to be Spoken Word! Expect jive-talkin' beatniks, dub poetry, black militants laying it down and deliciously dated public service records. Enjoy!"

48) Soundtracks

"A wildly eclectic mix of music made to be played over films, games, art exhibitions, broadway plays and anything else that required a soundtrack. Whether they were intended to be listened to on their own or not, the artists featured here often pulled off some of the best work of their careers!"

Peace.

50) Curiouser & Curiouser

"For the 50th show expect a globe-trotting, genre-hopping journey through twentieth century music. From mad murderous counts to holocaust survivors; every song has a story behind it and a sound uniquely its own."

51) A Greek Odyssey

"Greece's music scene is often overshadowed by its other contributions to European civilisation. Hopefully people will start to realise that they've also been responsible for some of the most heavenly music of the past few decades, thanks to their unique instrumentation and gorgeous singers. Enjoy!"

52) Detroit Techno

"The world's most vital electronic music scene emerged in Detroit in the early '80s. This is its story. As well as giving the histories behind some of the scene's brightest luminaries, it also features some of Techno's hardest and greatest music."

53) Glam Rock

"It's time to reappraise Glam Rock as the perfect pop genre it is. Dig out those knee-high boots, that skin-tight silver leotard and your old make up kit and rock out to these forgotten bubbleglam classics! Herein lies some of the silliest and most entertaining music of the '70s."

54) Spiritual Music

"Whether you're religious or not, there's no denying the strength of the music these spiritually-inclined musicians created. Covering many religions and faiths from all around the world: allow yourself to be lifted up to the heavens for an hour of beautiful music."
