Just gave a couple of tracks by "Daniel Owino Misiani and Shirati Jazz Band" that were on Youtube a listen. I love stuff like that. The Africans made the real jangle rock. That high-pitched guitar tone is addictive. Your dad from Kenya? I'd love to hear some more recommendations.

Apart from some of the albums I mentioned earlier and the tracks I played on the show, this article by Pitchfork has singlehandedly redeemed them for all the unreadable gibberish they've written over the years and should be as good a starting point as any: Africa 100 - The Indestructible Beat.

Protest Songs Cosmic Jazz Jah Is I & I Tour De France Modern Classical Abstract Hip-Hop African Music Figured I'd put them all in one place. Just a little OCD itch I needed to scratch. The next one might not seem all that appealing at first, but think of it as a gentle, folky chill-out tape. I was inspired by my friend's new arrival to do a show just for the tykes. Artists played include Donovan, Incredible String Band, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Magical Power Mako, Fit and Limo, Sibylle Baier, Ivor Cutler, a few songs from the Fuzzy Felt Folk comp, Virginia Astley, Kaleidoscope, Vangelis and The Innocence Mission. Perfect lazy Sunday music, I s'pose. It might also be a good tool to corrupt 'em while they're young so they grow up into psyche music fans. "A collection of charming and relaxing folk songs, funny skits and pastoral instrumentals for your children or the child within!" 27) It's A Kid's World

28) Doo-Wop & Girl Groups Rolled these two into one 'cause one seemed to grow out of the other and the songs worked well together. "Two essential stages in the development of pop music. The men of doo-wop may have laid the groundwork but the teen popettes of the wave of girl groups who followed in their wake really made pop melodrama a fine art (even if most of those songs were written by balding, middle-aged men). Featuring dozens of obscurities all abrim with that breezy '60s feelin'." Featuring: The Cosmic Rays (produced by Sun Ra), The Boss-Tones, Frankie Lyman & The Teenagers, Gene Pitney, The Mills Brothers, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Shangri-Las, The Tammys, The Cookies, The Pleasure-Seekers (crazy early Suzi Quatro group), France Gall, The Ronettes and a bunch more. Even if a lot of stuff from those genres has become standards, I reckon I dug up quite a few obscurities you might not have heard. Enjoy the tuneage while it lasts. I think the next show I'll do will be on Industrial music.

Managed to work some of my favourite experimental rock groups of the '80s into this show along with some pretty hardcore electronic industrial acts like SPK and a couple early '70s examples like Igor Wakhevitch. 29) Industrial A bleak and unremitting exploration of the Industrial music scene that emerged in the early '80s, when hundreds of headstrong anarchists broke all the rules and helped change music for good in the process. Though the music contained within may be challenging, it's also incredibly ahead of its time and well worth delving into by all you adventurous experimentalists out there... Featuring: SPK, Test Dept, Circle X, Dome, Savage Republic, Zone, Igor Wakhevitch, Mark Stewart, Minimal Man, Metabolist, Chrome and more... This is going out in Brighton at noon on Friday, which should make for some eenteresting lunch breaks. Enjoy!

Self-pimpage time again. This un's got a lot of the kind of music that I'd figure would appeal to most of you heads. 31) Musica Italiana "Charting Italy's always over the top and always enjoyable music scene. Expect to hear some gorgeous psychedelic folk, some crazy operatic prog, a lot of catchy post-punk and several excellent pieces from scores by masters like Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota. Grazie!" Feat the awesomely named Andy Warhol Banana Technicolour and The Sexy Angels, Franco Battiato, Claudio Rocchi, Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Opus Avantra, Lucio Battisti, former Album of the Monther Le Stelle di Mario Schifano, Chrisma, The Stupid Set, Pierrot Lunaire and a couple of others. And one on the Blues I shredded up my voice doing last week. I spent a couple of days afterwards talking like Captain Beefheart after gargling a gasoline and gravel milkshake. 30)The Blues. "If you ever felt like life's chewed you up and spat you out, well the blues are for you. The blues aren't just about one man moaning over his sparse guitar picking. They also embrace folk, gospel, jazz and various other styles, and they can be just as much about celebration as disconsolation, which this show amply demonstrates. Enjoy!" Feat: Mississippi John Hurt, Washington Phillips, Leadbelly, Nina Simone, J.B Lenoir, Skip James, Howlin' Wolf, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Elizabeth Cotton, Charlie Patton, Staple Singers, Blind Lemon Jefferson and a lot of really intense early gospel music.

I named this one after the title of this thread... Hopefully it lives up to its name. Show 32: The Experimental Institution. "A one hour musical trip inside a mental patient's brain. Only recommended for the very sound of mind, for it is very probable that you will find yourself becoming completely mentally unhinged before the hour's over thanks to the wild and unpredictable music contained within. Are you feeling lucky...?" Featuring: Caroliner, Cromagnon, Ground Zero, Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft, Prince Rama of Ayodhya, The Work, Aksaq Maboul, Philemon Arthur & The Dung, Won James Won, Midori, Feral Chickens, Dariush Dolat-Shahi, Art Bears and more! The intro might be a bit on the long side, so I won't be offended if you skip it. Peace.

Figured I'd reign it in a little bit after going a bit crazy with the last couple of shows. 33) Jingle Jangle Mornings. "An hour's worth of invigorating Jangle Pop music from Indie's early days, with a couple of sweet '60s tunes thrown in for good measure. Loaded with informative commentary on everything played. Enjoy!" Feat: Orange Juice, Josef K, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Pylon, The Soft Boys, The Wolfhounds, June Brides, Talulah Gosh, The Blue Orchids, The Go-Betweens, The King of Luxembourg, Jacobites (who I yoinked my intro/ident from), Beat Happening and a couple've others. Cheers.

Show 34) Space Rock Tapped into my misspent childhood reading a new sci-fi book every couple of days with the typically OTT intro. Some awesome guitar pyrotechnics and spaced out psychedelic music here, though. "Prepare to embark on a mind-melting voyage into the outer reaches of the galaxy with this hour-long show on the extreme psychedelic sub-genre known as Space Rock." Feat: Boredoms, Acid Mothers Temple, The Heads, Von LMO, The Legendary Pink Dots, Chrome and more... Bon Voyage.
