I suppose a lot of the content was dictated by who they could get to do it, but a more rounded and up to date picture would've been good. Still, a diverting and mostly enjoyable thing. m/ I always like to see Jimmy Page squirming when he's accused of inventing metal, he always coughs and splutters and says ''it wasn't me, it was the other three'' or suchlike plus he always sounds like a home counties civil servant looks like http://s.bebo.com/app-image/7931209819/5411656627/PROFILE/i.quizzaz.com/img/q/u/08/04/05/jimmy_page_bow_II.jpg sounds like http://www.lastingtribute.co.uk/image/John_Le%20Mesurier_2871938.jpg

It has been bothering me all day who Mick Box currently looks like. It's Helen Lederer.

Just finished watching the metal documentary, loved it. I'm not fond of the Judas Priest and the likes style of twiddly metal, though 'Breaking The Law' makes me laugh everytime I hear it (used to good effect in the film Adventureland, soundtracking a chase through a funfair). Used to be a big metal head during my school years, Maiden, Metallica, WASP, Anthrax and the like but moved onto other music, but the love of a riff stayed with me. Really enjoyed the the footage of Blue Cheer, Vanilla Fudge, Sabbath, Budgie, northern Britain etc. Great quotes, great blokes, loved their down to earth attitudes and the guy from Sabbath getting weepy remembering the Vietnam vets in the wheelchairs when they played War Pigs. Brilliant stuff.

Ha! But, in a way, The Dark Magus' home county-ness just adds to the whole Jimmy Pageness for me. It's always the quiet ones you know. http://liberalengland.blogspot.com/2007/12/jimmy-page-plays-skiffle.html The one thing (Of the show) that was a constant and, for me, all the vindication of the form that one might want, was the desire to be a good performer and give the fans a good gig. It might seem a somewhat homely proposition and, in some way, a tad incongruous with the supposed epic pretentions and scale of the big bands, but I think, if that core sensibility remains, then....you know, it's good, it's fun. It rocks. It entertains.

Actually it's just a sketch from Robert Smigel's "TV Funhouse" -- too bad eh! I like the way they cartoonized the band dynamic: Tony & Geezer make snarky comments to each other, Bill's drunk, and Ozzy's a loon. Er, plus a shaggy dog . . .
