Squid Tempest wrote: Good analysis. I've always wanted to like Kiss. I love Slade etc, and like the idea of Kiss, but, try as I might, I just can't get into their music. Right from my teens when Kiss Alive came out I've tried, but they just never seemed to deliver (to me at least). I always wanted them to sound so much heavier than they do. I do now quite like one or two things, including Destroyer and Alive, but they always sound a bit lightweight to me. Pity, as I really want to like them more! Excellent comments from this thread ... I totally agree with ST's comments above ... and want to really love them ... I suppose that I've been taking them too seriously all these years, and consequencly they've been letting me down as they wern't 'heavy' enough generally. Next time I listen, I'm gonna give them the same respect as I have for Slade, T Rex, The Damned (all mentioned in parts in the threads) and not expect that much! Perhaps only then will I 'get' them. Hope you might find something you like Gnostic. It's always a buzz to be turned onto to stuff, no matter who it is. My own starting point in times agone was the Rock n Roll Over album which is one of their heavier, rawer pop metal efforts from the early days. However, I'd say the best intro that exemplifies the qualities (or otherwise!) of KISS in their 70's pomp is a compilation called Double Platinum. Funny how a band usually derided for their shallowness seems to inspire such debate and analysis n'all. That's showbiz! 8^)
