Yes, I think folk should also push their musical boundaries and comfort zones in the other 'lighter' direction. I've been listening to Michael Rother's first 3 albums a lot recently (produced by Conny Plank with Jaki Leibezeit playing Dinger-esque drums). I've read comments dissing them essentially because they're not NEU! records, and on first listen I was sceptical e.g. thought the guitars were far too clean... but in the end I've succumbed to their gorgeousness and that old motorik beat and can't stop playing them. My good lady wife seems to be quite keen on me pushing my musical boundaries in a lighter direction, tunes, melody, singing that kinda thing. Joking apart it often strikes me that writing a good pop tune is probably a damn sight harder than churning out a large unwieldy slab of noise, unfortunately I then start thinking things like Jon Bon Jovi is obviously cleverer than Stephen O'Malley and confusion sets in. I like the sound of those Rother albums too, must investigate.

Remember my mate having one, and really liking when he played it me, but then hearing it again later it sounded too soft. But I bought this last weekend, and it's lovely. I want the others now... http://www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/thebookofseth/51/
