Deep into the nyte, five hour flyte!
Feb 13, 2010, 00:57
Kosmik Radiation was a nearly 5 hour marathon this week, so the podcast is an hour longer than usual.

Mostly 2000's era stuff again this week, but digging much deeper for underground stuff you probably missed like LANDING, RACOO-OO-OON & BLUES CONTROL. New tapes by LOOP RET@RD and GITCHE-ANAHNI-BEZHEU. Five-years ago favorites from OM, SIX ORGANS, BLACK ANGELS, BLACK MOUNTAIN and THE FALL. Plus listener requests for COSMIC JOKERS, SOPWITH CAMEL, FUNKADELIC and I found this guy WADADA LEO SMITH who sounds like "70's Miles."

And did I mention Interweb submissions from SOLUS 3, NEOTOPIA and MONTY THE SPACE POET? But you'll have to get through the terrifying sounds of the WERESHARK first! (During 3rd hour.)

Playlist: http://www.kosmikradiation.com/2010.02.12.htm

And you can figure out the rest from there.

Gracias!

Thank you for playing the track from the Solus 3 record. Sounds like we made a couple of fans on Friday morning so thanks very much for that. Good show too. Nothing like a little Cosmic Jokers over breakfast! Cheers, IB

Thanks from me, too.

I hope you don't mind me saying this, as it really is meant as a compliment; whenever I hear your links I picture Dr. Johnny Fever of 'WKRP In Cinncinati'.

Oh I could go on . . . what 30something DJ didn't grow up watching that show?

This scene has always lodged in my head:

But it's cut from the syndicated versions, because the original show used actual contemporary hits of the day, but the rights to the music were only for TV broadcast (they replaced all the original tunes with "B-roll" soundtrack music for the DVD etc.)

Now, don't spoil it for me - but that's just what it's like at your station, isn't it?

Maybe without the Arthur Carlsons and Herb Tarlicks!

(That is one show that's probably better in your memory than actually watching bastardized reruns.)

It was a big favourite of my late father. And for that alone I will always have fond memories of it. It was also an early example of an American mainstream sitcom sticking it to the man, so to speak.

No matter what homogenising and smoothing out of it's edges has been done to the tapes since its original airing, it will always remain untarnished in my memory.

Exactly. It really did capture the zeitgeist of the era -- the 70's giving way to the Reagan era (Fever & Venus vs. Carlson & Herb, with Andy always stuck in the middle.)

WORT has a lot more "chicks" though, and none look like the two on the show!

You could/should dispense with the truth here. The rest of us out here would be so envious - and any of your colleagues reading this would be most flattered, too.
