Kosmik Radiation radio
Jan 12, 2010, 19:36
This week on the Kosmik Radiation radio show (Jan 8) -- the year in music 2009! To my mind, the best musical year of the decade just passed! GET DOWN WITH THE NEW PSYCHEDELIC UNDERGROUND NOW!

Listen to the program here (now with slightly better 112kb sound!)
http://www.kosmikradiation.com/archive.htm

Playlist is here:
http://www.kosmikradiation.com/2010.01.08.htm

Read up on the list of my Top 15 albums (with links to reviews) here:
http://www.kosmikradiation.com/2009top15new.htm

Though I'll spoil the surprise and list them here too:

1 Sun Araw "Heavy Deeds" (Not Not Fun)
2 MV & EE "Barn Nova" (Ecstatic Peace!)
3 Meat Puppets "Sewn Together" (Megaforce)
4 Black Moth Super Rainbow "Eating Us" (Graveface)
5 Mission Of Burma "The Sound The Speed The Light" (Matador)
6 Os Mutantes "Haih Or Amortecador" (ANTI-)
7 Wooden Shjips "Dos" (Holy Mountain)
8 Sylvester Anfang II "Sylvester Anfang II" (Aurora Borealis)
9 Earthling Society "Sci-Fi Hi Fi" (4Zero)
10 Wand "Hard Knox" (Ecstatic Peace!)
11 The Fiery Furnaces "I'm Going Away" (Thrill Jockey)
12 Blues Control "Local Flavor" (Siltbreeze)
13 Fat Freddy's Drop "Dr. Boondigga & The Big BW" (The Drop)
14 Dinosaur jr "Farm" (Jagjaguwar)
15 Sonic Youth "The Eternal" (Matador)

(Aside: what is it with all the 80's indie rock bands coming back with strong albums? I think it's another sign that the good times are back!)

Also check out this very groovy clip of my #1 artist of the year SUN ARAW -- doesn't start out all that exciting, but stick around for the guitar solo that starts around 2:00 for trip-flipout-meditiation time! WOOOOAHHHH!!!

This week oldies for the fogies (Capt Beefheart, Scott Walker)!
Jan 16, 2010, 19:11
Since last week's show was all 2009 newness (and still in the archive til Friday Jan 22), this week we look back . . .

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART had his 69th birthday and SCOTT WALKER his 67th so there's a whole set dedicated to each. Plus a whole lotta mostly vinyl weirdnis, including AUTOMATIC MAN and ANDY WILLIAMS' psychedelic record!

And check out Rotwang's review of "Get Together With Andy Williams" which has stuck with me for years -- finally found this record a couple months ago!

Yeah, Robert Wyatt is a great creative force. Why isn't he more cherished as on of the UK's more special people? He's just left out there in the unseen, alternative corner away from mainstream radio and TV.

Nice to see Fat Freddy's Drop in there! They're fabbo! I nearly got chucked out their recent Birmingham gig for sparking up a fattyboombatty.

Didn't he win some prestigious award for one of his albums a few years ago?
