My pleasure! My only worry is you'll be borrowing all the good stuff before I can get to it!

Those box sets are a great deal - still only 40p a shot.

Don't know if you are a musician or anything, but there is also a sheet music library out the back beyond the CDs.

Edit: I'm bound to see you there sometime, I spend most lunchtimes browsing in there.

Do you always have the candle with you? Easy to spot but a tad dangerous amongst all that paper ;-)

Sadly I can't play anything. Maybe I'll get a book out on how to do it.

Jazz & Libraries. What a week this is turning out to be!

(Calamity - I can't view YouTube at work but will check it later)

There are plenty of "Learn to play..." DVDs in the library too!

They won't let me in the library with my candle, sadly. Whereabouts do you work btw? I'm based in Bunhill Row right near the Barbican Centre.

One of those DVD's could come in handy....but what instrument to play. I've always like the idea of the banjo but it's not very jazz is it.

I work on Christopher St, more towards Liverpool St, right near the Finsbury Square green.

I'm now a fully fledged member of Barbican Library. Very nice establishment. My pockets have been lined with Ornette Coleman 'The Shape Of Jazz To Come', Mingus 'Black Saint', Coltranes 'Blue Train' & 'Giant Steps'. 40p each for a week. Not bad at all. Got my eye on The Complete In A Silent Way box set for next week.

I can see where I'll be spending my winter lunchtimes the next few months.

Cheers for the tip off Mr Squid.

"Black Saint..." is an incredible album, just wait till you hear the "talking" horns on one of the tracks, fucking awesome and I'm not even that big a fan of jazz...nice

yeah, those late 70s sun ras are sweet, but also the early 60s ones can be more easy-going than you may imagine - "angels + demons at play" is a lovely rec, frinstance .. great tunes, funny homemade production, real party swing in places too

i like his big band live blowouts from early 70s best, but there are huge tracts of absolute insanity on those things, so prob not for everyone

Could do monsieur....though I'm more of a lemonade man these days.

re: the post on Black Saint....talking horns?? My ears cannot wait for that kind of malarkey!

re: 'Tree and Sun Ra. Seeing as his name has cropped up ever since I got into Sonic Youth and MC5 I'm surprised I've never investigated his work. Some of his album covers are amazing.

They've got a couple of Sun Ra CDs in the library.
