Thanks for your input my friend. But to be honest, i think you make a lot of Straw man comparisons.
Not everyone is content with a 125 dollar strat. I've been playing over 35 years...those mexican cheapies aint for me. Just curious from a socialogical standpoint, How old are you? I'm just turned 48.

I bought a vinyl reissue of The Velvet Underground & Nico mono a few months back.
I'm pretty sure it's a bootleg.

I'm very happy with my 3 guitars:
1. used early 90s Japanese-made Jagmaster that cost me $300
2. Johnson (US made) tele-copy, purchased new for $150
3. Johnson (US made) tele-copy, purchased on ebay for $75 by a friend who gave it to me for free
That's 3 guitars, total cost to me: $450
I used to have a nice Epiphone that a girlfriend gave me for free. I sold it to a guitar dealer for $300. He sold it to J. Mascis for $4,000.

Huh. Well I don't have much good as far as guitars go, a Hondo copy, a couple of Squire models and one Fender Jazz Bass, BUT I have my lovely ARP Odyssey Mark III synth and lots of other good keyboards...
Of course I'm much more interested in synths and how they work than guitars anyways. Brand names or not a guitar is just a piece of wood with strings, as nifty as the sounds they make... so why make the distinction between a Fender Strat or a copy of one? (Although I will say it does depend on the quality of the company -- some cheap guitars are junky, obviously...)

Lawrence, you should start a thread about our favorite instruments or such like. I could talk about guitars and amps for days.
And there is ONE HELL of a lot of difference between various guitars.

Well you are right. There is a difference between a Les Paul and any Fender guitar -- I can't really do as much with a Les Paul maybe because it's heavier... Synths though are entirely different, at least as far as the earlier models go...
