LP’s WHAT WILL BE – Devendra Banhart Very pleasantly surprised with this one. Although I’m a big fan of the likes of Cripple Crow, I wasn’t expecting to like this one as much for some reason. First Song For B is fabulous. ARE YOU ARE MISSING WINNER – The Fall Second week on the trot for this. Not one of their best by any means – tbh I don’t really like the 2nd half of this set that much. But the first half has some great tracks – Crop Dust and My Ex-Classmate’s Kids in particular. And the version of R Dean Taylor’s Gotta See Jane is entertaining, too! LIVE! YOU GODDAMNED SON OF A BITCH – Revolting Cocks No Devotion is awesome. I love the way the lengthy Kilimanjaro-like (the TX track not the LP) intro teases the audience for a while before they all pile in. BIG HITS (HIGH TIDE & GREEN GRASS) – Rolling Stones Paint It Black / It’s All Over Now / The Last Time – what a great run of tracks! HEMPTON MANOR – The Shamen Really good instrumental album (yes, no Mr C!!) CUT – The Slits With New Town sounding especially good. Also... FRIENDLY FIRE – Coin-Op OCTOPUS – Gentle Giant REAL LIFE – Magazine ROCK’N’ROLL WITH THE MODERN LOVERS – Modern Lovers 45’s WONDERFUL LIFE – Black JUST FASCINATION – Cabaret Voltaire MIND RAFT EP – Deradoorian EMPIRE STATE HUMAN – Human League NEW AGE MUSIC – Inner Circle I HATE ROCK’N’ROLL – JAMC JUNGLE BROTHER – Jungle Brother GIVE ME EVERYTHING – Magazine

The Silent Years- The Globe. A bit sub-Arcade Fire, but engaging enough for a freebie promo. Cold Cave- Love Comes Close. Much touted new darkwave electro outfit. I wanted to like it, but it's a bit rubbish, really. Memory Tapes- Seek Magic. Very pleasant, but blatantly ripping off New Order and the Cure with their melodic lead bass thingy. Oen Sujet- Life in Quiet Places. An overlooked gem from the Loaf records stable this summer. Jazzy and glitchy. The Phantom Band- Checkmate Savage. Another one investigated after reccomendations from round these parts. Very enjoyable, too. Bryan Maclean- The Lost Tapes. Thanks for the heads up, Stevo! The Move- Fire Brigade. Procul Harum- A Salty Dog. Both of these are scratchy old 'music for pleasure' compilation albums, dug out after reading the Tony Visconti biography. David Bowie- Scary Monsters. Likewise. David Bowie- Another Face. Early Deram-era compilation, has the single mixes of Rubber Band and Love You Till Tuesday alongside other bits and bobs. Tin Machine- II. Not sure why I listened to this. Bert Jansch- Sampler. Pussy Galore- Historia Del Musica Rock.
