"Frankenstein"?
Feb 11, 2009, 00:53
I've been reading the thread on reactions to the new Brain Donor -- I wanted to hold off until I had heard it for myself.

Anyway, I can't find any songwriting credits on the disk and if anyone mentioned the Dolls cover, I missed it. Surely Sylvain & Johansen deserve proper credit?

Of all the days to peek on here and find you're back on board...!

Welcome back, man.

(And yeah; "Wasted Fuzz Excessive" is excellent. Honest.)

How so? Same melody & chord changes, same lyrics (at least in the beginning...) -- ?

I've gotta ask you one question:
Feb 12, 2009, 05:57
How is this a cover of The New York Dolls' "Frankenstein (Original)"?

Well, there's only the opening line "Something must have happened/over Manhattan" and the refrain of the title. And that's pretty much it. It's also not titled "Frankenstein (Original)."

If this song had a different title, no one would think for an instant it was a cover of "Frankenstein (Original)."

It's also missing at least four verses,

There's so much phasing/distortion on the guitar it blurs most of the chords,

There's a line about planes flying into buildings,

The word "martyr" is in the sung lyrics...

It's not a Dolls cover. It's...

a FRANKENSTEIN.

Love,

Edgar Wintergruppe

Well it's some kind of homage. Whatever happened to the Saint Vitus cover?

You don't think it has the same melody & chord changes? I do.

Pavement totally re-wrote the lyrics to their version of "Camera" but they still gave credit to R.E.M. To each his own version of homage I suppose.
