although most of us know vinyl never went away, it is now getting play as making a comeback, both amazon and circuit city have vinyl specific sites listing between 10-13,000 titles indie, audiophile, and major label titles

Bring back the penny farthing!
Maybe, I haven't spent enough on turntables, but I have never heard a vinyl album played that didn't include some kind of extraneous noise -for that reason alone...I am a digital convert...no more plastic for me (aside from what I have to keep for achival reasons).

I listen to less and less of my analog collection. I've been contemplating moving to an all-digital format for some time, actually... dumping it all onto a terabyte drive and ridding myself of all the physical trappings of the music. I'd miss some album covers, but it's frankly quite difficult to deal with the space requirements of a large bookcase full of stuff.
We'll all be buying our music digitally in ten years, I think. We've gone from the edison cylinder to the 78 to the 45 to the 33 to the 8-track to the cassette to the CD, and the drawbacks to all of these mediums is their fragility and their need for actual storage space.

It's inevitable.

I am with you Dave...the only thing I miss, with CD, is the scaled-down artwork..but even a 12cmx12cm cover is better than an ITune download...which I am going to resist as long as the technology allows.

Vinyl Revival? Sounds like a marketing scam to me! Lets sell people old technology for more then the new stuff and make them think its "cool & underground" Phooey I say!

CD covers were kind of a letdown for me after LP sized art. Art on a computer screen has it's tangible limitations, but the art associated with music can expand into the interactive under the new paradigm.

I'm 45 years old and certain nostalgic ways of thinking still nag at me, but I got on the computer bandwagon early enough to have become pretty comfortable with the whole transformation.
