http://www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=12383 Great two part article on CREEM. Did not know Lester Bangs came to Creem after RStone, thought it was the other way around.

Sadly enough Lester had his demons, article states how he died in poverty in NYC. I have been reading his early RStone reviews and he is harsh to the point they print retractions in the next issue.

I loved CREEM magazine and especially Lester Bangs' sarcastic wit. At the age of 12 I was hypnotized by the photos and articles of the likes of Iggy Pop (who I delightfully thought was straight from hell), Blondie, The Ramones, and introduced me to David Bowie, The Who, and Zeppelin, to name a few. I'd seen Rolling Stone, which was still a newsprint paper, but it didn't speak to me. It didn't have that dangerous edge that Creem did. I probably didn't understand ALL the innuendo it offered, but I knew I had to hide the mag from my mother or else she'd go apoplectic with the centerfold sight of Alice Cooper's low-slung leather trousers revealing his happy trail. ;-) x

I remember reading Creem in the eighties and even then it was an entertaining read. Then it got bigger and less interesting. Is it still around and is it as good?
