Appetite came out in 1987, first cover was withdrawn within 6 months. Band toured for a year with glam metal Motley Crue. Album started to get traction in 1988.

This was the time of Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince.

Main British exports were Def Leppard, goth, and Stock, Aitken, and Waterman productions.

Green River, Mudhoney, and Soundgarden were pretty unknown unless you got 'OPtion' or 'Why Music Sucks' fanzine.

Alternative was Volcano Suns, Killdozer, Homestead Records, SST( which was getting weaker and weaker)

Appetite is definitely derivative. But it was great FM radio rock, Stones channeled through Aerosmith. American blues based hard rock.

La glam metal scene blossomed for a bit, then hair metal bands, then grunge.

And in the end, Metallica was the only one still standing, having been there since 1983.
