MC5 Sonically Speaking Book
Jan 11, 2008, 16:40
Has anyone read it? Author is Brett Callwood released in April 2007.

I believe this title was mentioned in the MC5 reissues, and was suppose to be written by Ben Edmonds.

Apparently, the only downside is author was only able to interview the three surviving members.

Just started reading this, seems well researched and well written.

We'll see...

Who is that guy. I know the name and have been intrigued since coming across a book of his. Interesting book but I don't think it placed him in the scheme of things.
Assume he got a name somehow.
& thinking back, I think yup he was supposed to be doing an MC5 bio.

well written, very in depth on the band and the scene

works well with the the two documentaries

All the attention Stooges have been getting lately

MC5 is forgotten as the more musically adept

and adventureous route not taken

ponk rawk as reductionism

might not have been so predictable

I've got and I've read it and I really enjoyed doing so - I can't see why anybody wouldn't enjoy reading it

I've got that but like I find with most biographies it kind of fizzles out after the main event, ie: when the band was shit hot and still together. Loved the lead up to their high times, the social climate in Detroit and all the baggage that went with being a young rock n roll band. Worth a read.

Think I had a couple of issues with his Stooges book which i've just been reminded of by the Stooges entries in Grit, Noise & Revolution by David Carson.
Not sure if they were the same mistakes but Clarkson has Destroy all Monsters being founded by Ron Asheton when he actually came into a later line up of an existing band. I'm also not sure how accurate calling the proposed 3rd Stooges lp from '70/'71 Raw Power is. He has that as its projected title at the time. But that's Carson not Brett Callwood. I need another look at Callwood's book before I can recall exactly what was up with that.
Carson also announces that True Testimonial the MC5 documentary was released, wasn't it given a limited promo tour then blocked by Wayne Kramer?
