Spirit "Taurus"= Stairway To Heaven
Memphis Minnie "When The Leevee Breaks"
Jake Holmes "Dazed And Confused"
Bert Jansch via Traditional "Blackwaterside"=Black Mountain Side
Moby Grape "Never"= Since I've Been Loving You
Small Faces via Willie Dixon "You Need Loving"= Whole Lotta Love
Fear Itself via Blind Willie Johnson "In My Time of Dying" with cough

Also
It's a Beautiful Day "Bombay Calling"=Deep Purple's "Child In Time"
Beautiful Day did steal a riff from Purple later, but I haven't found it.

Child In Time is such a bleeding obvious riff i doubt anyone could be accused of stealing it.

Indeed, i think it depends on your viewpoint, if you like Zep you go but of course they jazzed it up, admitted their sources[albeit some a lot later than others] and anyway they're Zep and therefore must be worshipped
If you don't like Zep you shout loudly 'Wanky Rip Off Merchants, thank goodness Punk came along etcetc''.

Personally i think ELP are far more deserving of our scorn, Nutrocker credited to B Bumble & Kim Fowley without a mention of it's original composer. Pictures At An Exhibition at least gave Mussorgsky a passing mention, and as for Abaddons Bolero, time for justice to be done M'lud

ps Stairway, the intro is another pretty obvious one, why does it get played so often in guitar shops, because it's the first scale you learn.
Anyways getting a recorder on the world's No1 rock song [tm top gear industries etc] deserves double tufty points in my book

The British heavy bands of the 70's were open listeners, and influenced by the U.S. West Coast scene plus blues, country, rockabilly, etc.

However, the Stones, and Cream had no problem giving credit.

Zep have had no problem enforcing laws against rappers.

It also is a matter of a progression/riff being a trigger point for a song's composition or a if song has been wholesaledly ripped off and renamed. Zep did both.

F8ck me, this comes around time after time after time....we've heard it all before...yawn.
Music is about communication...and influence. "Hats off", I say to artists who take good things around then and weave them into their music - if they do it well, it saves you a lot of trouble.

Howlin Wolf "Killing Floor"= Lemon Song

Chocolate Watchband "And She Is Lonely"=Stairway To Heaven

"Season of the Witch" via Brian Auger via Vanilla Fudge=What Is And What Should Never Be

Sleepy John Estes riff for Moby Dick

"Bring It On Home" Willie Dixon

Anne Bredon via Joan Baez "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"

Rodgers/Hammerstein "Bali Hi"=Immigrant Song

If anything maybe music is less dynamic because of fierce copyright protection.

It is also interesting to watch a band's growth, listening habits, and creative ambitions what they do with what they hear.

As did a swathe of 70's and 80's metal groups of Zeppelin[Bonham in particular and as Page was responsible in part for his sound so what goes around comes around], if you are seriously pissed off with Jimmy Page write him a stern letter, as i pointed out before you're preaching to the converted, Zeppelin have become so part of the mainstream that it would be difficult to find someone who didn't have an opinion ,good or bad of them, but is any of this relevant today. Not really IMHO

CSNY "Carry On" = Friends

Leadbelly via Fred Gerlach "Gallows Pole"

Yardbirds' "Knowing That I am Losing You"=Tangerine

"Waggoner's Tale" via Bert Jansch= Bron Yr Stomp

Bukka White "Shake 'Em On Down"=Hats Off To Harper

Actually Zep no longer owns their publishing, haven't since the mid 80's.

However, they do have to pay into Willie Dixon's publishing forever.
