I dig the hell out of
James Whiton And The Downtown Apostles
(just got back from their set at the Seamonster
so they have a profound and favorable place in my brain tonight...
I think their next show is in June, as James is on tour playing bass for Eric McFadden in the meantime)
Kinski
Neon Brown
Royal Trux (RTX, Howling Hex)
Acid Mothers Temple
Black Crowes
Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet
(not rocknroll strictly speaking... that isn't part of the question, tho, is it? If so I'll substitute Crack Sabbath or Critters Buggin, if either passes through the eye of the camel, um...)
There's others, I'm sure, but I come back to these pretty constantly and they're all fairly current and/or fairly local which is important to me... There's a lot of quality in history, and I have a lot of favorites (bands or albums) from long ago and far away, but anyone really throwing it down here and now gets my serious respect, when there's a million bands on every block and quality control is iffy at best
