The Damned (but none of that silly Phantasmagoria malarky) Spiritualized Neu! Throbbing Gristle Roxy Music Genesis (Peter Gabriel era) Amon Duul I and II Joy Division Dukes of Stratosphear I could listen to anything by any of the aforementioned and be happy happy happy. They're all so different and satisfying in their offerings. Bowie can't be called a band, can he? Naw.

I dig the hell out of James Whiton And The Downtown Apostles (just got back from their set at the Seamonster so they have a profound and favorable place in my brain tonight... I think their next show is in June, as James is on tour playing bass for Eric McFadden in the meantime) Kinski Neon Brown Royal Trux (RTX, Howling Hex) Acid Mothers Temple Black Crowes Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet (not rocknroll strictly speaking... that isn't part of the question, tho, is it? If so I'll substitute Crack Sabbath or Critters Buggin, if either passes through the eye of the camel, um...) There's others, I'm sure, but I come back to these pretty constantly and they're all fairly current and/or fairly local which is important to me... There's a lot of quality in history, and I have a lot of favorites (bands or albums) from long ago and far away, but anyone really throwing it down here and now gets my serious respect, when there's a million bands on every block and quality control is iffy at best

Watched their OGWT performance (Smash It Up and I Just Can't Be Happy Today) again just the other night. I remember thinking they'd go on there and show such a serious muso show how they could really play. Wrong! Anarchic versions. Splendid stuff... Mine... T.Rex Teardrop Explodes Wire Stooges Only Ones Beach Boys Joy Division Doors Velvets Sex Pistols Stereolab Tarwater etc

Individual musicians/songwriters, yes, but bands... everything I hear now has been done before. **sweeping statement** I'm struggling to think of anything else - Lynyrd Skynyrd? Ummm.... Zero 7. I like them a lot. Oh, and Porcupine Tree. Fuck it. I'll was born in 1963. I can't help it! LOL J x PS going to see Bob Dylan on Tuesday...
