Ok just thought of this one for fun. Have any of your favourite artists made you hold your head in your hands with despair? I love Steeleye Span, but then they went and recorded 'Gaudette' (X Maria Virgin etc etc), even tho the rest of the album (Below The Salt) is OK. Aaaargh! 'All Around My Hat' is guff too I suppose. So, when have your musical heroes let you down? x |

Had Cope's '20 Mothers' on in the car last week. When he starts disco-ing about being a Pooh bear climbin' up to some 'honey'....urgh. ..beyond a few tunes, most of that album is pretty forgettable.

When New Order recorded "World In Motion" - and worse - when they played it at Reading and that twat Keith Allen danced with them onstage!

When New Order (or their Record Company?) brought in Ana Mantronic to sing on Jetstream - wouldn't have happened when Rob Gretton was in charge!

Caetano Veloso never let me down in 40 years of recordings... And I have then all (but don't you think I'm 60 or something. Only 39, ok?) As to Cope, My Nation Underground leaves with the feeling that I need to pop into other record. Blondie: The Hunter is not a record to count with.

the Mekons 'Pussy, King of the Pirates'. Not that the Mekons were a letdown with the music on that project (some of it is quite good)...the spoken word stuff by their collaborator Kathy Acker ranges from OK to completely banal, tho.

This lyric from Led Zep's Ramble On fits the bill for me.... How years ago in days of old When magic filled the air, T'was in the darkest depths of mordor I met a girl so fair, But gollum, and the evil one crept up And slipped away with her. Even as a kid that did my head in. Mind you that's nowt compared to The Lemon Song, yuck !

Lots of otherwise good records in the 70's were ruined by the banality of their cock rocking lyrics. Free's The Hunter is another one that makes me want to spew.
