went off buying mojo for a few months - same old farts on the covers etc etc - but really fancied one today. so goes into smiths and there are the shelf was a whole new batch in of the latest issue. Bloody beatles on the cover, sgt pepper spec ed, could have wept. still, saved £5.

I haven't even seen the latest on the shelves out here. I must admit I too am starting to tire of it's dull attitude. Always the same old faces on the cover. Gong deserved a front cover at least, rather than the 'How to buy' featurette. But they always play safe pandering to their reader's tastes, rather than trying to educate and inform. Shame.

I've got it on subscription at present and you've echoed the disappointment I felt when I saw the cover/CD. I think I feel a cancellation coming on.

Ive renewed for another year, ok it was a gift, it has become more of a drywank in recent years , still worth picking up though, i agree they do too many artical on the same folks over and bloody over, and not nearly enough on say Beefheart , Zappa Residents,Snakefinger,Waits, Silver Apples, Porcupine Tree, Amon Duul II etc. Then there are cover stories that read like : Oasis : The Saviours Of British Rock !!! Are they taking the piss ?!

There's a good reason they put familiar faces on the cover: it makes more people buy it! This is a deliberate strategy to lure people in who wouldn't give a second glance to a cover with say, Sun Ra. Once they've parted with their money they are quite likely to read an article about someone new to them and maybe investigate further. As I said this is their openly declared policy, which is smart thinking. Give the uncomitted something familiar and hope to turn them on to the good stuff.... People buying for an Oasis cover are probably beyond hope, but have at least helped subsidise the maagzine.

Fair point, but I cancelled too. I could have written the stories myself half the time. Cos I read them there & in old Qs....................... Q used to be good years ago. Until it started doing lists of everything. WHAT is that all about? Stick with HH!!!

I agree about the issue of the cover artist safety, and I agree that the content and editorial is all getting rather hackneyed, I have been told that first hand experience of content that is offered, that is ignored..when novel research and info not in the public domain is offered. I really think that magazines like this who are published by publically quoted media companies Emap I think in this case, will tend to play safe in my opinion worrying about Advertising. and whether W.H.Smiths will distribute it, have you seen their ratecard? I think Phil Alexander edits the magazine, not sure if he has the correct freaky credentials to put Sun Ra on the cover I miss Sounds and OZ magazine, the former really tried hard to make a freaky difference in the mainstream, I remember Mr Cope being photographed ion Sounds effecting a pained countenence whilst standing up to his waist in a village pond somewhere..Mark Ellen standing in for John Peel on Radio 1 commented on this rather worried by it all.. Happy days

I think it's a good mag for what it is. I don't think you can judge it by the cover.
