But Cope also frequently urges a return to the primitive in missives and lyrics, and Brain Donor are pretty metal for the most part

Plus they sell this

on here, so these things are not entirely dismissed out of hand on Planet Cope.

He has a very paradoxical attitude toward "real" heavy metal. On the one hand, he "fucking loathe its microcephalous ass! Only things that creep dig real heavy metal." On the other though, as you said, he's supported "real" heavy metal, both with Brain Donor and by giving really positive reviews of Sunn O))) and Sleep, and even doing the brilliant "My Wall" with Sunn O))). He's a very complex individual in that way, full of paradoxes.

Unfortunately Ski Mask from that group is now an annoying local TV personality. If you can stand him talk about cheap disco records yr welcome to it...

Right here 8O

Absu are fucking SICK! I actually think American Black Metal is really underrated, and overshadowed by its Norwegian and Swedish betters. USBM has a very noise inspired quality to it, a dark ambience that I really love. Plus, so called "Depressive Black Metal" with bands like Xasthur and Leviathan started in America. I like it because it's just as theatrical, but with none of that Satanic bullshit veneer .

Yeah, you can't go wrong with USBM usually. I generally like any kind of BM except for the nazi kind (most of the nazi stuff isn't really all that great musically anyways...)

Nokturnal Mortum is the only so called National Socialist Black Metal band I can stand, and that's because of their use of synthesizers and the fact that I can't understand the lyrics anyway. Check it out!

Yeah I heard that band but they sound too much like Led Zeppelin meets Cradle of Filth for me.

Someone long ago send me a CDr featuring Graveland but I didn't like it either. Lack of a bass player for one thing...

I sheepishly admit to having been a fan of Death In June though, not related to BM at all, but I kinda backed away from that stuff due to the controversy and getting sick of Douglas P.'s Islamophobic crap generally...

Dub Buk is another good Ukrainian NSBM band, just ignore their crappy 2010 release.

When it comes to metal, I try to avoid judging musicians based on what they say, because half of the time, the shit they say is just a pissing contest for shock value. They want to make themselves sound as extreme as they can, and I just get tired of it, so I only judge metal music based on the music itself

Well part of it was also getting sick of the 'Neo-folk' scene, as most of it was regurgitated DIJ riffs over and over again -- kinda like how the Ramones became boring when so many punk bands copied their formula... Anyways I did realize much of DIJ didn't even stand up well musically -- well maybe the first few albums did when they were a 'rock' band, but since then it mostly was three-chord folk that was running out of ideas as time wore on...

Yeah, it's been said you can say anything in a three-minute or longer song, and although I appreciate a good song no matter what the message, some musical artists just annoy me with what they do or say on or off stage/studio. That's just me though...
