Good call on The Soft Bulletin, seconded. Pretty much any Lips beyond their earlier more 'garagey' stuff which I've only heard in passing, alas.

How about The Byrds in general?? They're enjoyable and all but I don't understand the people that just love them..

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
(well, pretty much anything by The Beach Boys, if I'm honest, but particularly this one. How some people can hear this as the best album ever made is utterly beyond me.)

It's also ripped off from an early Deep Purple toon called 'Hush' - well it's quite similar.

Actually I'm with you there; The Smiths never were a favourite band of mine even though everyone seemed to think they should be. It's not that I disliked them as such, I just didn't really get into them and coudn't/didn't know how to take them seriously. So if you is a music philistine Shelbs, then I is too!

Fake rock bands like Guns n Roses, U2, Green Day etc obviously

plus John Martyn - All that singing down his nose and the silly swirly guitar effects I can't be doing with

and Joni Mitchell who I’m sure is very good and everything but her voice has the same affect on me as Randy Newmans does on Keith.

And not even Deep Purple's. It was by a US singer-songwriter called Joe South.

I can't get into Pet Sounds at all. Even had someone get it for my birthday last year.

Not to be cheeky, I find Teardrop Explodes and all of Julian Cope's out put lacking. Very boring, unoriginal and derivative. Taking drugs to be creative is not very. Psychedelia hasn't been subversive in 30 years. Julian is an interesting writer though. Uh-oh.....
