I am fond of 'Pet Sounds', but like 'Sgt Pepper' i've just heard it too much & now all the meaning has gone. 'Surf's Up' is still THE ONE when it comes to the Beach Boys however. >>

That's one of the best songs ever, fo'sho'

Apart from the fact that I bloody HATE this 'urban contemporary' m.usic, what REALLY narks me about 'RnB' is that it calls itself 'RnB'.

Rhythm and blues is good stuff.

Whereas RnB is SHITE.

same goes for Garage for me, 60's blokes with guitars good, late-90's dance music of the same name shite

can i put in a good word for Mary J Blige and Missy Elliot, who fall under this banner and have managed a coupla decent tunes, still i'll agree it mostly is pretty bad.

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
(well, pretty much anything by The Beach Boys, if I'm honest, but particularly this one. How some people can hear this as the best album ever made is utterly beyond me.)

Television - Marquee Moon
(Listened to this loads of times and I just don't get what all the fuss is about. Supposedly punk in some way this just sounds like guitar wankery prog with a MOR production. The voicce grates and some of the songs are just bloody endless. Yawn!)

Jesus wept, you are me and I claim my five pounds.

Missy Elliot definitely deserves some credit, as a person if not as an artist. She's a fiesty lady, she doesn't give a fuck what other people think and doesn't make lame attempts to conform to some kind of stereotype and her music, though not what I'd exactly rush out and buy, at least has a bit of originality and creativity about it.

And that her first two records in particular are works of unbridled brilliance.
